Celebrating: My birthday! I turned 46 last month and enjoyed celebrating with my boys and with friends. This past weekend, I celebrated with family. We celebrated my grandmother’s 90th birthday and had a baby shower for my cousin and his wife who are expecting their first child! Family was home from all over…Wisconsin, Washington D.C., Virginia, Georgia, and of course South Carolina!
Watching: I am taking a break from cable and have gone cold turkey only utilizing my Amazon Fire Stick. At first, I caught up on some movies like Moana and then realized, I could get my ABC and NBC shows as long as I was willing to wait a week to view them. So, I caught up on some of my usual programs like What Would You Do? and Bachelor in Paradise (my guilty pleasure). Most recently, I did a free trial for HBO Now and have been watching the likes of Issa Rae in Insecure. It is HILARIOUS!
Welcoming: We are three weeks into the new school year and it is going better than I anticipated. I am a school counselor and was recently moved to 6th grade. We welcomed in over 340 new faces to our campus in 6th grade alone. The kids seem pretty calm right now in what I call the honeymoon phase. I can tell they are still trying to get a feel for things and see where they can make their mark. Since I don’t have approval to share their pics, I thought I’d share one of my 6th grade team (minus a few) displaying our team bonding activity the week prior to all the kids returning. We had so much fun and I think we did a pretty good job.

“The honeymoon phase” is a great way to describe those first few weeks of school! I think my honeymoon phase is about over. I’m figuring out quickly who my chatty Cathys (more like chatty Carls!) are!!

Oh mercy I bet our grandmother’s would have some stories to tell if they got together! You have such a big family…I’m a teeny bit jealous!! I totally know what you mean about the honeymoon period and back to school….my kids are definitely there and I’m hoping things stay smooth for a bit. Happy Wednesday!

My family is sooo big, this wasn’t even the half of it. My grandma had 9 kids and 4 step-kids so imagine all the cousins everywhere. One of her sisters also had a large family so we just fill a room. I wish I could share the clips my cousin took of us trying to get a decent picture on the porch. They are so funny and grandma was just being grandma in some. Your kids are too cute and they will always be on their best behavior! Hope you guys are doing well in Texas. Prayers sent.

Happy birthday to both you and your grandmother! I hope you both had a wonderful birthday! The baby shower looked like it was a blast as well. My husband is in grad school for school counseling, so I love seeing people who do that job and enjoy it–what a fun team building activity! Have a great year!

The birthday celebrations were AWESOME, both mine and my grandma’s! It was great having family home to celebrate! A little mini-reunion! Tell your husband that what he learns in school will help him, but it will be so different from what he learns in his internship. I hope he is able to pair with someone who exposes him to everything. Lots of fun celebrations recently – that’s so much fun. I LOVE those baby shower photos. I have a baby shower to attend this Friday and I’m excited – it’s my friend’s first so it should be fun to celebrate with her. 🙂

I have a fire stick and I love it. I really wish I could ditch all cable for good but haven’t pulled that trigger yet. Would be a huge windfall though bill wise! Happy September!!

I think I will be adding satellite TV since they are offering me a special. It is hard at times…especially when you miss the premiere of Season 15 of Ellen….ughhhh!!! But, I have been saving money! Take care and Happy September!
