Get Your Irish On: St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner.  So, I thought I’d put together a little list of fun things to do to celebrate.

Wear Green.  It shouldn’t be hard to find at this time, but don’t wait till the last minute because they will quickly sell out. Some great places to shop are Old Navy and Target.  Be as subtle or as wild as you’d like.  Its all about having fun! (Well I waited to long and couldn’t find a green shirt, but I found one with green writing.)

Play some Irish music or music by Irish bands.  Traditional Irish artist like The Chieftains or the Dubliners, or some rock music from bands like Van Morrison,  Thin Lizzy, and U2. I mean who doesn’t love Bono?

Attend a parade.  And while you’re at it, attend a block party.  For 17 years now, N. Charleston has hosted the biggest St. Patrick’s day celebration in the Lowcountry.  Live music, vendors, and food trucks galore.  There’s fun-filled activities the entire family can enjoy.

Check out the local pub scene.  In Charleston, there are many places to go.  Some of the popular favorites are Tommy Condon’s, Seanachai Whiskey & Cocktail Bar, Madra Rua Irish Pub, The Griffon, and Dunleavy’s Pub. Where ever you decide to join in, I’m sure it will be a spirited affair!

Host your own shindig.  If the bar scene is not your thing, host a small gathering at home.  You can find inexpensive decor at Party City or  order some cute items from Oriental Trading.  Be sure to serve up some green cuisine and wash it all down with your creative green cocktails or some Guinness beer.

    1. Thanks Lauren! I can’t believe I haven’t been able to find a decent green Tee anywhere! I tried on the one green shirt I have at home and it doesn’t quite fit right…hehehe! So I’m going with head gear!

  2. I taught computer to the students at Whitesides Elementary in Mount Pleasant and all four of my daughters attended elementary school there. Even back then, the kids would look everyone over and, if you didn’t have on something green, they would pinch you and just laugh and laugh. I nearly pretended to forget to wear green just to make their day. LOL DD3 and her hubby just bought a house in North Charleston, near Park Circle. So glad that area is coming back. Love all the tips. I’d love to host a gathering but we’re purging the attic and I’ve got a bit of a mess. 🙂

    1. How cool! I’m a counselor in Dorchester 2! Yes, I have my green hairbow ready for Friday as well as some cool, tattoos to share with the students! It’s a half day for the kids and a professional development day for the staff that afternoon! I love what they have done with the Park Circle area. I love to go to EVO when I can and have had dinner with a few friends at Digs. I need to try out Accent on Wine. I always go to the tastings in the Summerville area. Small world!
